Sofiko Bitsadze is an active woman entrepreneur and a mother of two young children from the village of Kartubani in Lagodekhi municipality. She and her husband have been involved in beekeeping activities for two years.
To expand production, Sofiko participated in a Women’s Economic Empowerment project supported by UN Women. As part of the project, she has purchased new hives to multiply bees, a filter for honey and an equipment for making candles. Both, husband and wife are always thinking to develop their business and improve the quality of products. She offers customers natural honey and honeycomb.
Sofiko is going to produce and sell a candles in the future. In addition, she wants to get a certificate from the National Food Agency and collaborate with different stores.
The project “Women’s Economic Empowerment through Social Mobilization and Capacity Building” is funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), implemented by Kakheti Regional Development Foundation (KRDF), Taso Foundation (TF), and CARE International in the Caucasus (CARE).
