Cooperative "Nergebi" practices vinery and nursery. Its activity doesn't just gives profits, but is also beneficial for the village: which is restoring and rehabilitating endemic variety of "Usakhelauri" vines, which is unique for the Okureshi village in Lechkhumi region. "Nergebi" has newly planted vineyards and expects more production in the future.
"Nergebi" was formed 2 years ago. The majority of vineyards of the region is located in Lechkhumi and the cooperative works to adopt most of the endemic varities of their region. This way they'll be able to produce from their own vineyards.
In the beginning "Nergebi" was practicing only nursery, then its members decided to start winemaking and managed to process several tones of Usakhelauri with their own resources. As this wasn't enough, the group decided to take part in program for cooperatives.
With support from the project, the cooperative purchased agregates necessary for grape processing and built the factpry with co-financing. Now, the cooperative is able to process the grapes and bottle them. When needed, local villagers are also employed in the factory's work.
In the future the cooperative expects more production and plans to expand in order to adopt new varieties of Usakhelauri and Tsolikauri vines and process up to 150 tones of grapes. For this, more lands and storing equipment is needed: "In today's conditions, we're able to store up to 14-15 tons of wine. But we will need tankers to store up to 50-60 wine, a territory for cold storage facilities and a wine press".
The cooperative's main wish is to have a better factory for more production and income, but also for benefitting the village, because the cooperative plans to buy from community members and help locals sell the grapes.
