Cooperative "Nergebi" owns successful nursery in the village Lesa, Lanchkhuti municipality. Its members had a long experience of working together and their cooperation continued as a cooperative since 2014. Working as a cooperative appeared beneficial for the members.
"Nergebi" is a mixed nursery and produces different sorts of plants: seeds, fruits, almost every variety of plum in West Georgia. It's also specialized in producing wind protecting plants, cyparis, criptomerias. The demand on wind protecting plants is increased and accordingly the cooperative tries to strengthen this direction. Nergebi is alos producing berries and plans to produce blueberry in the future. Besides, during winter, it works on vegetables and produces decorative plants. This is not a full list of products that Nergebi offers the buyers.
"Nergebi" was one of the first cooperatives supproted in Guria municipality through the program. With the grant, the greenhouse was constructed. Although the members of "Nergebi" had long practice of cooperation, the project and the given education and trainings made big difference for them. "We continued working with more enthusiasm as a cooperative, because we felt assistance. Cooperative members increased their knowledge in management, book keeping, market research. As a result , the previous year was quite successful and profitable for the cooperative.
The leader of the cooperative tells how it is to work together in the cooperative: "We often compare cooperatives to the times when we were working separately. Difference is that we can purchase products in cheaper price. We received more attention as a cooperative, people know us, which is important. Last year's experience showed us that "Nergebi" became one of the successful cooperatives in Guria".
In the future, cooperative will adopt various directions. Their aim is to become certified nursery, that will increase their visibility and profits.
