For "Bukistsikhe 1811", the reason for starting the cooperative was not to get a profit, but also the desire to promote winemaking in Guria region. The cooperative was created 3 years ago, with the initiative of several locals in village Bukistsikhe, Chokhatauri municipality, willing to continue their vine traditions.
Guria region is not famous for its winemaking traditions, but Bukitsikhe is an exception. Many people own vineyards in the village. The main goal of the cooperative was to revive the endmiec varieties of vines, such as Jani, Skhilatubani, Chkhaveri, Kamuri white and Kamuri red. The amount of local varieties, such as Janitsikhuri is quite small, but the cooperative works to collect the necessary amount for production.
"When creating a cooperative, we were thinking how to bring more benefits for the village. Our village is famous for its vines. Everywhere else you look, there are tea plantations, but here no one thought of tea. Winemaking was the main tradition here. We had nurseries too"-says the cooperative member.
After participating in the program for cooperatives, Bukistsikhe received technical equipment for producing wine. With co-financing, a modern wine factory was built. The capacity for the factory is 30-40 tones, but the cooperative thinks to increase the scale of production. The main challenge is the small territory of the village. The majority of the local inhabitants in Bukistsikhe practice vine and the cooperative is actively cooperating with them.
The biggest wish for "Bukistsikhe"is to develop tourism in the area and build Chateau, along with the hotel and ethnic corner, where the guests will be introduced with traditions in Georgia and particualrly, Guria region. The local population of the village Bukistsikhe is actively involved in winemaking, and the cooperative plans to actively cooperate with fellow villagers in the future.
